The little brown bat is the most common specie in the Maritimes. Bats are mammals - not rodents. Baby bats are born between May and July and can fly by themselves in one month. The average life span is 5-10 years. "Blind as a bat" is a phrase that is not true - they see very well!

Despite the benefit that bats consume thousands of insects per night, they are a potential health threat to humans. Rabies and histaplasmosis are of concern when dealing with bat infestations in structures. As bat droppings accumulate in attics, the risk of histaplasmosis increases.
